DUO Theater under the Artistic Direction of Michelangelo Alasa’ is dedicated to developing and producing theater works by Latino playwrights as well as employing Latino directors, actors and designers. DUO Theater achieves this through its Programs which include: The MUSICAL THEATRE COMMISSION PROGRAM which has commissioned over 21 musicals including the long running BORN TO RUMBA! and CHEZ GARBO. Five of these productions have been recorded and released on CD; IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT SERIES, which showcases Latino actors in plays by leading world playwrights, generally in roles they are seldom cast in, productions have included BENT, THE NORMAL HEART, THE BLUE ROOM, BEIRUT, BETRAYAL, EASTERN STANDARD, DANNY and the DEEP BLUE SEA, etc; THE NYC GAY/LATINO THEATRE FESTIVAL; THE DOWNTOWN MUSIC SERIES which brings classical music to the Lower East Side and the NYC DOWNTOWN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL. DUO is committed to developing and producing Latino works. All our productions are performed in English.
